Ashdod Port, the Port​ of Israel, is Israel's largest seaport cargo volume and is a major gateway for goods and cargo to and from the State of Israel, has started operations in 1965.​ It is operated by the Israel Port Authority and owned by the government of Israel.
The port is located in Ashdod, about 40 kilometers south of Tel Aviv, adjoining the mouth of the Lachish River. Its establishment significantly enhanced the country's port capacity. It handles the largest volume of cargo containers annually of all Israeli ports.
